Social Security Disability Claims

Attorney Rick Salmi speaking about social security disability claims.

Social security uses a five step process for evaluating claims. They use the process called sequential evaluation. The first step asks if you’re earning above a certain earnings limit called substantial gainful activity. The second step asks if you have any impairments which are considered severe. The third step asks if you have any impairments which meet or equals what’s called the listed impairments. The fourth step asks if you would be able to perform any of your past relevant work which is work that you’ve done within the last 15 years. And then the fifth step says based on your age, your education, and your past relevant work history, would you be able to perform any other jobs that exist in significant numbers in the national or regional economy. If you have any questions about these, please give us a call.
