Jerome, Salmi & Kopis, LLC – Law Firm in Fairview Heights, IL

John Zimmerman

John Zimmerman joined Jerome, Salmi and Kopis in 2023 after working the last 5 ½ years for Brown & Brown.

At Brown & Brown, John limited his practice to representing injured workers against their employers and insurers in both Illinois and Missouri. John has spent over 30 years doing Workers’ Compensation law, but he spent the first 25 years on the defense side, representing large, impersonal employers and insurers. John has now found very real satisfaction representing employees. But, having worked directly for employers and their insurers, John gained a unique knowledge of how these people think and how they do business. He is now using that knowledge to help injured workers receive the benefits to which the law entitles them.

Experience

John has handled thousands of workers’ compensation cases in this area and is comfortable with cases involving smaller injuries as well as cases where the injuries are catastrophic. These catastrophic cases require specific expertise in structuring settlements and satisfying the requirements imposed by Social Security and Medicare.

Education & Personal Life

John began his career in the criminal field both as a public defender and a prosecutor in the St. Louis area. He grew up in Minneapolis and Chicago. John attended Denison University for his undergraduate studies. He came to the St. Louis area to attend the Washington University School of Law, graduated in 1983 and never left the area. He now lives in Belleville Illinois with his two cherished cats, Zorro and Zinnia. John is an avid sports fan and a diehard follower of the Cardinals and the Blues. John has also coached baseball for many years, having started as a player/coach in his college days.

He also enjoys spending time with his two grown sons, Brian and Jack. Brian is an air traffic controller in the New York area and Jack manages a baseball academy locally.
